How Does gamepedler.com work
Site Inclusion Policy
Q. What does it take to get a site included in the composite score of game
Ranking?
A. This is the most commonly asked question. The things we look for when adding a new site are:
- Any review site that has a decent record of reviews geared toward game listed on their web site.
- Only top quality review sites that give each product a consistant rating score will be considered to be bolded in review listings and counted toward the primary average ratio of a product (more on that below). Samples of Primary sources would be Cnet Reviews and PC Magazine, sample of a site that is by all means quality enough but does not include ratings in their reviews; Tom's game - pro/con remarks don't cut it unfortunately.
Q. What is the difference between the Primary Average Ratio and the (secondary avg. ratio)?
A. Primary Average Ratio is what is what is considered the official rating of a product and it's the primary avg. ratio that is listed in all the different lists and that each product ultimately is counted by. Secondary average ratio (the one that is listed on the review page inside quotes (xx.x%); it is the combined avg. ratio by all reviews for that product including Primary sources but obviously not N/A rated reviews.
Q. Why are some reviews N/A rated and scored with a N/A Ratio?
A. Some sources like abu"s gamepedler.com which is a highly respected source of reviews; unfortunately do not assign scores to their reviews but rather just Pro/con's and recommendations. These reviews cannot be given a ratio for scoring purposes.
Q. Why do some products not have a Primary Avg. of N/A but only a secondary of (xx.x%)?
A. Some products only have secondary sources listed, and until a primary source review is posted, the primary avg. will remain N/A; on those; the only thing you have to go on is the secondary average.
Q. Shouldn't sites that score on a scale of 1-100 have more influence than sites that score out of 5 stars?
A. I couldn't agree more with this. For those sites that do not use a 1-100 system their rating simply gets avereraged out as that is the simplest way to do it and everyone understands it. This all goes back to the consistency issue. As long as a source is consistant and gives every good product a 5 out of 5 then it will effect all of them equally.
Q. Why are ZDnet and Gamestop not included as Primary sources but Cnet Reviews are?
A. Basically because ZDnet recycles their reviews on a multitude of sites and it would not be fair to include them all in the primary, I picked Cnet as the primary source simply because I added them first to the Source list. If a ZDnet and/or a Gamestop review is listed for the same product as well as Cnet then all three count toward the secondary average which is another reason why the secondary average ratio is not as accurate.
Q. Why should I post my reviews or the reviews of my favorite review site to your database?
A. Why Should you take the time to do so? Well, we strive to be the place where people the world over come to look for a review for the product that they are looking to buy. Rather than Google for it and find x shopping links for every y actual review, they'd come to gamepedler.com and get a list of reviews, their rating of product and the avg. ratio by all reviews; chances are if they see your review they will most likely click on it and you WHAMO you have a high quality targeted reader of your review for free just by adding your review to our database. You will also get Search Engine bonuses for every link from gamepedler.com that points to your site. And lets face it - if you don't list your reviews, some other review site will get the traffic that you could have gotten instead.
